Victoria Park before the golf course was converted to a public park was always an amazing wedding venue. In fact, Victoria Park hosts more corporate events and weddings than just about any other venue in Brisbane.

Now it has completed its conversion to a public park, the entire precinct is even more accessible and practical. While it was kind of fun to drive around the golf course before on golf carts, it was also a bit unnerving dodging golf balls and making sure you followed correct golf etiquette!

I have been lucky enough to capture numerous weddings and events at Victoria Park over the years. One thing that I always love about this venue is the easy parking access. Unlike some inner city or city fringe venues, there are always plenty of free parks on site a few hundred metres away from all of the event spaces.

While there are many event spaces to choose from for receptions, in almost all cases where guest numbers are less than 100 couples choose to get married at The Courtyard space which features a built-in arbour, which of course you can decorate as required.

The Courtyard space is quite private, and overlooks the park. It can receive direct sunlight if your ceremony is too early in the day, so planning the perfect ceremony time with your photographer is recommended. Ideally you will have just enough time to be whisked off in golf carts to capture your bridal party portraits, ending as close to sunset as possible.

Right on sunset the sun streams through the bougainvillea flowers close to The Bistro, making this area ideal to finish off any couples portraits.

The grounds of Victoria Park are vast, but the key features for portraits are all quite accessible by golf cart and mainly located near the top of the park (not near the function areas) including:

  • Jacaranda Trees (aim for an October wedding to see these in full bloom).

  • Bushes featuring pink flowers.

  • Palm trees.

  • City views (with the sunset if timed well).

The smaller function rooms are ideal for weddings, catering for small to medium size guest lists. For larger weddings you can take advantage of larger spaces such as ‘The Garden Marquee’, or perhaps even the larger ‘The Marquee’ or the ‘The Ballroom Terrace’ if you are looking at 150+ guests.
