W Hotel Brisbane is where I always recommend couples stay if within their budget. This hotel is located in the 41 storey, 182 metres 300 George (Tower 3) right on the Brisbane River.

The reason I recommend W Hotel to wedding couples is for several reasons. Firstly, the rooms are spectacular for producing getting ready photos with their sheer curtains providing soft, flattering light and other useful backdrops and surfaces that work well for detail shots.

Secondly, the hotel was cleverly designed with various internal features and areas that make capturing quick bridal party photos or first looks a breeze. This includes the grand staircase that meanders from the reception area down to the ground floor, the outdoor garden area and even the main lobby bar can be utilised for quick portraits.

Other hotels (Sofitel comes to mind) just can’t offer this variety and diversity of backdrops for portrait photos. And then there are hotels like Calile Hotel (in the same grade as Sofitel and W Hotel) that don’t even allow photographers to shoot inside the hotel unless the couple is getting married inside the hotel.

W Hotel is not like this at all, it’s never been a problem capturing photos of couples staying at W Hotel at anytime, the staff simply don’t even blink an eyelid.

I have far too many weddings and events at W Hotel to remember each one, but I do know that were all a success and the service and hospitality was top notch. People have told me they were pleasantly surprised at the value for money offered at the W Hotel overall, which is perhaps why it is also so popular.

Not only did Sally & Michael choose probably the best hotel in Brisbane for their getting ready photos, they booked the incredible Old Queensland Parliament building for their magical ceremony. This also provided extra portrait locations backdrops for some quick portraits after the ceremony.

For this wedding, there was no reception coverage requested so photos finished when their bridal car drove off into the sunset past the new Parliament House.
