Long Term Wedding Photo & Film Backup & Storage 100 Year Blu Ray Disc 25-50GB (100 Years)
Need a long term backup of your wedding photos, but don’t have a Blu Ray burner, knowledge of how to burn discs reliably and just want to get a physical backup copy of your photos and slideshows?
Perhaps your wedding photographer does not include a Blu Ray disc as part of the wedding package, and only offers digital downloads.
Chris Jack Photography can download, burn and validate the production of a Verbatim 25GM Blu Ray disc for you and post to your Australian address.
This service includes:
Liaising with you to download your gallery are high/maximum resolution from whatever gallery hosting service your wedding photographer provides. This involves obtaining the URL and password, logging in, downloading, unzipping and preparing the files for burning.
Burning 1 X Verbatim 25GB Blu Ray Disc with your photos and/or slideshows, video or movies where the total space is less than 25GB.
Running error checking algorithms after burning to ensure the integrity of the DVD.
Posting your wedding photos backup Blu Ray disc to an Australian address, using Australia Post.
The total cost for this service is $89, an additional Blu Ray discs can be purchase for just $19. For example, you may wish to order 2 or 3 extra discs to distributed to friends and family, lock in a fire/flood proof safe or take other backup measures.
Please note that we still recommend backing up your photos to multiple cloud based storage service providers such as Google Photos, Dropbox, iCloud etc, but having a physical copy of your photos is also highly recommended.
Why can’t I just use a USB drive or external hard drive to back these up myself?
Unfortunately, none of the common methods of physical digital backup provide truly long term, reliable storage without the risk of data decay.
Physical media such as CD’s, DVD’s and Blu Ray discs when burned correctly all last approximately 100 years providing you and your family enough time to pass these photos onto future generations.
SD Cards have a lifespan of approximately 10 years, which makes then unsuitable for long term storage. USB drives are even worse at storing data long term with a lifespan of just 10 years on average, and external or other hard drives even worse (e.g. copying them to your desktop computer or external hard drive) where you can expect only 4-6 years of reliable storage.
Why do you offer Blu Ray discs and not DVD’s?
Modern wedding photography equipment such as the latest Canon 5D Mark V cameras shoot at high megapixels which resolve to 8192 pixels at the longest edge. These files are quite large in size when exported at maximum resolution (without compression).
Modern mirrorless cameras focus extremely well compared to older DSLR cameras, so most good wedding photographers these days find it much easier to deliver way more photos than they used to.
This combination of high megapixel photos combined with more acceptable photos captured by your wedding photographer means the total file size of wedding photos alone can mean the total capacity of even a dual layer DVD (just 8.5GB).
Combine this with video slideshows or even movies (which often will be captured by a separate vendor than your photos) means the total capacity of a DVD is not sufficient in 2025 for most wedding backup scenarios (unless your wedding coverage was short e.g. an elopement of registry wedding).
So you will backup both my photos and wedding film?
Yes, this service includes downloading both your wedding photos and films (videos) and slideshows and combining these onto one Verbatim Blu Ray disc.
In 99% of cases we can use a standard 25GB Blu Ray disc for this purpose. Where your photos, slideshows and videos exceed 25GB we will probide a 50GB disc at no extra cost (so you don’t have to calculate the final file size).
How long does it take to receive the Blu Ray disc?
Please allow up to 14 days to download, burn and send your disc to your address.
Can I order more than one Blu Ray disc, for example to distribute to my children or other family?
You certainly can, and because once we have downloaded and consolidated all your files into one folder, the process of creating additional discs is much less expensive. Therefore, additional Blu Ray discs are even better value at just $29 each. We recommend ordering at least one additional disc, and using this disc to play the contents on a Blu Ray player when required, keeping another copy safely stored somewhere like a flood/fireproof safe.
